Trail reports for Stone Mountain Mountaintop Trail
This rating was added on 2006-03-21

If you're from metro Atlanta and haven't walked up Stone Mountain at least once, you need to, even if it is just half way up. Don't walk up past the picnic tables in the rain. Very steep and strenuous the last 1/4th of the trail. You'll enjoy the view up there and may be able to see your house if you look good enough. I haven't been up there in a while. I hope the new park management company has cleaned up some of the trash up there and updated the building on the top of the mountain as well.

This was an intresting trail, we chose the wrong day to do this. It rained the whole time but had a great time.

This is the only trail don't get tired of. It's proximity to the city, challenge due to the dramatic incline, and view from the top always make it worth the trip. The only negative is that it can be busy (almost crowded) at times.

Never a let-down. This is a true hike to the top of the mountain. With a wind blowing, it gets exciting. Raining, well, good luck! Will have the cardio moving as you approach the top. About 1 hour to the top is you are in pretty good condition. Less than that if you are very active. Down goes much faster.

This is un underestimated hike. One needs little skill to hike up the mountain; anyone can do it given enough time and patience. To hike up (without running) under 20 minutes is remarkable. To hike up aunder 17 minutes requires solid longs, strong legs, and an iron will. Best result is gained from three consecutive walks with breaks adding up to no more than 5 minutes total. That means, three RT hikes should be done in less than 2 hour to get the best cardio benefit.

One of the most used trails in GA. It is a fairly simple walk to the top of the mountain, the grate can be a challenge for the extremely young, elderly and physically out of shape.

Very easy, not very clean, but d hat is due to the amount of people that "hike" this trail. the view at the summit was incredible though, and then staying for the laser show was fun as well. If one is to go, they should go with the family and not for the hike, but for the entertainment.
