Beautiful trail but quite strenuous. I hike very fast and did this one in approx. 1 1/2 hrs. to the parking lot and one 1hr 5 mins to return.

I disagree with the ‘heavy’ usage, I was on the trail about 1 hours and only saw four other hikers. I did not hike from point to point; I started at Brasstown Bald parking area, hiked for a while and then returned. This is very much a ‘Wilderness Trail’ narrow and overgrown. But if you like your hikes off the beaten path, I recommend this one. The portion I hiked was dog accessible

Hiked the Arkaquah on Saturday 10/7. The trail was very well maintained and was not as tough as I expected. It is not an easy hike by any means, but not too strenuous if you are in good shape. I hiked from Track Rock Gap to the top of Brasstown Bald and then back to Track Rock. The scenery was hampered by the foliage, but this would probably be an amazing hike with winter views. As it was on this day, the leaves are starting to change to their fall colors and that was an added bonus on the hike. The view from the top of Brasstown Bald is excellent of course, but that is technically not part of this trail. There are a couple of tricky parts along the trail where you must take extra care in climbing up or down small portions, but they are far from "dangerous". I was very impressed with this trail and may go back and do it again in a few days just because I enjoyed it so much.

I hiked from Flat Rock Gap to Brasstown Bald. The first mile and a half or so is very strenuous. But it is worth it when you get to the top - which is a very nice ridge hike, with views to either side. I didn't find the usage to be heavy, but more so moderate probably.

I hiked the Arkaquah on 10/28/08 with my two dogs. We started at Track Rock Gap. It was in the low 40's with a strong wind. By the time we reached the end of the trail there was a light dusting of snow on the ground. The first mile to mile and a half is a steady climb and is pretty strenuous.

A great full-day hike (the guy who did it in 2.5 hours must be Superman). The vertical portion from Track Rock Gap to the crest of the ridge is quite strenuous up and down. A good workout! There was no water available at Brasstown Bald: water fountain and rest rooms all locked!

Fantastic hike. Short sections of challenging terrain make it interesting while long sections of gentle slopes give a chance to take in the vistas.

Good terrain with small up and downs for the first couple of miles. Walks along a ridge line with a few good breaks for viewing the surrounding hills.

12/29/09. Good hike. Went from Track Rock Gap to Brasstown Bald and back. Took 2:20 to and 1:50 from. So the way back is significantly easier. The first mile up is by far the toughest section. Beautiful escarpment through a rhododendrum forest, and Ice formations. Did the hike with about 25lbs. and my 9 month old dog. Weather, Sunny and 30 to 40F. Bring plenty of water. I ran out just about half way on the return. My legs were really cramping on the long descent. All and all a good challenging hike. Anyone can do it if they are in adequate shape.
