In 2000 the North Georgia Astronomers and the city of Gainesville, Georgia introduced a "solar system", a series of markers that demonstrate the relative distance between the planets in a walk from the town square to Lake Lanier (Longwood Park). The entire Rock Creek Greenway comprises the planets of Jupiter and beyond. This level, easy out and back hike can be fun for the whole family. There are multiple places to stop including a children's playground. Smoking is not allowed anywhere within the Rock Creek Greenway.

Ivey Terrace is one of Gainesville's first parks, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. This open park was almost completely redone in 2000 to add the Rock Creek Greenway. Two picturesque bridges, one made of stone the other made of steel make this a good place to bring a camera.
Wilshire Trails is the most natural of the four parks that comprise the Rock Creek Greenway.
