Georgia Trails

Origins

Lumpkin County, Georgia was established on December 3, 1832. Although it is considered an original county distributed in the Sixth and Seventh (Gold) Georgia Lottery it had a prior incarnation in the state as part of the Original Cherokee County. Once part of the Cherokee Nation, Auroria was an early center of the 1829 Georgia Gold Rush and Daholonega (Licklog) was a later center. Although it is frequently reported that Lumpkin County was the site of the first gold find for this gold rush, this is incorrect.
