The Georgia Bartram Trail Group helps maintain 51 miles of trails in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Rabun County Georgia. The longest trail is the GA Bartram Trail which is 37 miles long, reaching from the Hwy. 28 Russell Bridge across the Chattooga River to Hale Ridge Rd. (FS #7). The Georgia Chattooga River Trail is 11 miles and connects to the Bartram near Sandy Ford Rd. and goes from there south to Hyw. 76. The final trail is a 3-mile section of the Three Forks Trail from Rabun Bald to Hale Ridge Rd.

Our work on the trail is as Forest Service Volunteers for the Tallulah Ranger District in Clayton, GA. Some of our actions consist of:

1. Keeping the trail clear of brush and blowdowns and working on the tread to remove major impediments. Problems that are too extensive for us to undertake are reported to the Forest Service.
   
2. Working on water diversion structures on the trail, sculpting grade dips into the tread and berm removal to help limit water damage to the tread. Occasional trail reroutes off eroded sections.
   
3. Making available to backpackers and hikers an accurate and reasonably up-to-date trail guide. This includes GPS generated maps and detailed notes with a few tenths of a mile resolution. Also trail head locations and directions, campsites, and water along the trail is included. The guide breaks the trail into approximately 10 miles sections and can be used to day hike the trails.
